Rating: 4 out of
5 stars
I found this
thermal imaging monocular to be relatively sensitive. It has some unique
features, but there were a few aspects I wasn't entirely thrilled with. For
one, the fixed 1.5x magnification made it slightly awkward to use. It would
have been more practical at 1x. The magnification options of 2x, 4x, and 8x
seemed less useful, especially as they magnified the image at the cost of
clarity.
The display
wasn't like a typical thermal camera. It had various color settings, such as
white hot, black hot, and red hot, along with a green plus sign to highlight
the hottest object. However, it lacked temperature indications. Despite these
quirks, it served its purpose, especially with the white hot setting, which I
preferred.
One oddity was
that the image would cut off when the viewer was held horizontally and
"upside down." Nonetheless, it was still functional when pointed
straight up or down. Charging it was another puzzle; I found it required a USB
A to USB C cable rather than the multitude of C-C cables I had. Despite these
peculiarities, it met my thermal imaging needs, although the price was on the
high side.

This thermal
imaging monocular has great qualities but also comes with a few minor annoyances.
The absence of a removable SD card and the requirement to use the supplied USB
C cable were somewhat frustrating. It meant carrying an additional cable for
field recharging on a battery bank. Navigating the menus was also less than
ideal, as there was no dedicated back button, and one had to wait for it to go
back automatically.
Despite these
drawbacks, the image quality was impressive, with no complaints in that
department. When selecting the unit, I opted for the 15-384 model, which
provided a balance between resolution and viewing angle. Going for a larger one
with higher resolution might narrow the viewing angle too much for close-range
scanning, which wasn't suitable for my needs. Overall, the monocular served its
purpose well, even with these minor inconveniences.

I purchased this
thermal monocular a few months ago for hog hunting, and it has exceeded my
expectations. I use it to scan fields and ATV trails at night, allowing me to
spot hogs and understand their patterns. While it might not distinguish between
animals like deer and hogs at long distances, it offers a quick positive ID up
to around 200 yards, which is more than enough for my hunting needs.
The device's
durability was impressive, with no issues in light drizzling rain or humid
conditions. The battery life was reliable, lasting through my late-night
hunting sessions. The monocular's clarity was better than expected, although
image quality did diminish at higher zoom levels. The ability to change color
modes and easily toggle on and off was a plus.
